Shared hosting

Shared hosting is a type of hosting in which the server is divided into a large number of accounts sharing the same IP addresses and server resources. Shared website hosting is the most widespread and economical one, but it also has a number of limitations. It should be understood that some resources (RAM, traffic, processor time) will be shared by all users on one server. Nevertheless, if you have a small site, a resource with low traffic, then virtual hosting will suit you.

If you cannot determine how many resources you need for the normal operation of your site, then you can quite safely start with one of the simplest tariff plans. If your site grows and requires more resources, you can change the tariff to a higher one. What you need to pay attention to first of all:

  • disk space;
  • traffic restrictions;
  • characteristics of databases;
  • the number of websites (domains) that you can host in one account;
  • the number of subdomains and parked domains;
  • the ability to buy your own IP-address;
  • the number of possible FTP accounts;
  • the number of mail accounts (boxes) that you can create in one account.

These are some of the important parameters that differentiate the possible shared hosting packages. But if you are just starting your path as a webmaster, then you should not get hung up on all these subtleties, because you always change the tariff plan with the chosen hosting provider.

It is also important to mention the control panel with which you can manage your hosting.

What is virtual hosting suitable for: for simple business card sites, information sites, medium-visited blogs and forums, as well as online stores with minimal requirements.

Advantages:

low cost;
clear even for beginners to manage your hosting account through a convenient panel;
full support of the hosting provider in case of server-related problems.
Disadvantages:

limited administrative rights;
the inability to determine the software configuration;
the need to share some server resources with other accounts located on the same server as yours.
